We explore the mistakes made by Sam Rothstein in the film Casino. Sam was a professional person sports bettor who was in charge of the Chicago mafia’s gambling operations in Las Vegas in the 1970s, while Ginger was his troubled wife who struggled with addiction. Although Sam was highly valued by the mob, his ego got in the way and led him to make a series of professional person mistakes. He didn’t keep a close eye on the finance liaison, fired a gaming commission employee, and got into trouble with the gaming commission. Additionally, his human relationship with Nicky Santoro, a mob enforcer, bred distrust and caused problems for Sam’s casino business.
