Massachusetts Sports Betting:

The Gaming Commission says that since regulated wagers went live on January 31st, there have been three casinos within the state which have run afoul of Massachusetts sports betting: regulations for in-state college games. After three Massachusetts sports betting violations in less than two weeks, the Gaming Commissioner stated that they don’t know what the volume will be just yet, but they believe that these sorts of violations are routine.

Barstool and DraftKings Fines in Ohio:

Ohio sports betting has only been up and running in the state since January 1st, but already we’ve seen huge fines for DraftKings and Barstool Sports in Ohio. All together, the Ohio Casino Control Commission has collected $900,000 in fines just this year for a variety of violations. First, the DraftKings fines stem from a direct mail campaign in the state which ended up being sent to some young adults under the legal gambling age. The Barstool Sports fine for holding a live event just exterior of the University of Toledo’s football stadium, which violated rules on advertising close a college campus, and for targeting those under 21 years of age.

New York Sports Betting Tax Issue:

When New York sports betting was passed with a 51% tax charge per unit, we knew it would lead to problems. at nowadays, both DraftKings and FanDuel New York are saying they could abandon the market if that tax charge per unit isn’t lowered to something to a greater extent than realistic. The CEO of DraftKings, Jason Robins, described the situation as “unsustainable” while speaking at a recent joint legislative hearing. He pointed out that while the tax charge per unit is already the highest in the land, it’s even worse than it appears since fees and licensing make the state’s effective tax to a greater extent than than 70%.
