The Pop legacy of Ennio Morricone!:
Ennio’s influence spreads beyond the impact of his ‘spaghetti’ western scores on stone bands. He also assimilated the dance styles of the times, and made seriously funky tracks like “La Moda”, “Nadine”, and “Ballabile No. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5” and disco/salsa like “Un Salotto Borghese” (consider below for links.)
France’s ZE Records responded to the disco of the late 70’s with a “Mutant Disco”, where dance acts from Paris and New York could be to a greater extent than sonically adventurous and bold: like James Chance & The Contortions, Was (non Was), Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Material, and Lizzy Mercier Descleoux. The Paris duo Casino Music combines dance music with the unmistakable chorales and surf guitar of Ennio’s westerns. It forecasts later musicians like Stereolab, Hooverphonic, Beck, and AIR.
